How much is the productivity loss in your organization due to mental health issues?
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that mental health disorders result in a global economic loss of approximately 1 trillion USD per year, largely due to decreased productivity.
It’s important for companies to understand the impact of mental health on their employees and to implement measures to support mental wellness in the workplace.
Mental health issues can negatively impact employee productivity in various ways, such as:
Ø Decreased motivation and focus
Ø Increased absenteeism
Ø Reduced work quality and efficiency
Ø Difficulty in forming and maintaining work relationships
Ø Increased stress and burnout.
Employers need to address and support employees’ mental health to promote a healthy & productive workplace.
The major stressors that can negatively impact employee performance include:
Ø Inability to cope with the demands of the workload
Ø Inability to cope with the dynamic nature of today’s job market
Ø Inability to cope with the unclear and unsupportive corporate environment due to online working.
Ø Personal life issues such as the issues with life partner
Ø Parenting issues, especially with teenage children
Ø Financial issues
Ø Health issues in the family
Ø Personal, Emotional, and psychological issues the employee undergoes on a day-to-day basis.
These mental health issues can be categorized into two types:
1. Hygiene issues such as Personal, Emotional, and Psychological issues the employee undergoes on a day-to-day basis; are assumed to be the responsibility of individual employees
2. Productivity issues.
These two issues are closely linked, and eventually, the organization is at the receiving end in terms of productivity loss due to the mental and psychological stressors the employees undergo on a day-to-day basis.
